There We Stood

Now that we have a minute or two
Nothing special to do
I want to tell you something
That I’ve known for a long time.

The space that opened wide
Where we could fall inside
Through the mist that slowly turns to rain
And vanishes in the sun.

Chorus
As the tree we planted grew
It became our only view
When the storm swept it away
It looked like nothing could ever stay
But there we stood.

When words just slip away
For the things hard to say
The smell of baking bread
It can fill that space.

A touch in the deep of night
A laugh when the timing’s right
A look shared over the top
Of someone’s endless words.

Chorus
As the tree we planted grew
It became our only view
When the storm swept it away
It seemed like nothing could ever stay
Looking like our last day
But there we stood.

Repeat chorus
