This instrumental came to me when thinking about sunrise over a lake. The lake I had in mind was Two Island Lake, up in northern Minnesota. Our family camped there a lot. One morning, I captured a picture of a thunderstorm just as the sun poked over the horizon. The photo catches all the shades of dawn, plus a thunderhead and a rainbow. I took it with a cheap little camera and it looked like a real photographer had taken it. It’s still the best photo I’ve ever taken.

The song is built in layers. It’s a very simple melody over an almost Baroque chord progression.  It builds as the sunrise fills the sky with light.
