I’ve written a few songs, couldn’t help it, about the occupation of Minnesota by the federal government. I’m not sure the actual experience of this is easy to communicate to people and other states.
This is a folk song that attempts to accomplish a little bit of this. I wrote it in less than an hour and performed at live a few days later at a Vigil. This was a gathering of people at a local church where a minister read poems and other passages and participants shared their experiences and insights. It also featured music, as music is essential for humans to understand each other. At least that’s what I think. I performed my song as a solo performance. Who knows if I’ll ever perform it again, depending on what happens here in Minnesota or in other states if I happen to be there.
The recording is simple. Guitar, piano, bass guitar, and vocals. I didn’t think a folk song needed any more adornment, but it sure was tempting to add strings! There isn’t even a lead guitar part, something I don’t think I’ve ever done in one of my recordings. I wanted to focus here to be on the lyrics which are heartfelt and deeply sincere.
The song is available on all streaming services, and if you do not have a music service, you can access the song on YouTube: https://youtu.be/8uvXiPYkL_Q
