This is a song about non-conformity. The lyrics might be a little obtuse, and perhaps I should have called the song something like, “The Eccentric.” The speaker is someone who follows their own course and is largely immune to much of the peer pressure and doomsday babble that surrounds them.
I suppose it’s a bit like “letting my free flag fly,” like the Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young lyrics. So, just to sort of pick up on that 60’s nonconformity vibe, I used a song that, at least to me, echoed the 60’s and 70’s British rockers who learned their licks from American blues masters. Since I was invoking that time, it seems like a great opportunity to play a whole lot of lead guitar!
