Silent Room

The room remains in silence
As the day fades into night
We cross the room, each on our own
No one turns on the light.

You can leave if you want to
I am not in your way
And if you’re really going to
I’ll ask you to stay.

It’s not the life you wanted
As you looked up ahead
But the way was never clear to you
And you have this life instead.

Maybe this time is passing
A low and empty space
All we need to do is hold on
Until something else takes its place.
