Raise Your Voices

A young man is dragged away
They pulled him right out of his car
Here in the land of the north star.

It’s tempting to look away
When you see something you can’t believe
It’s easy just to self-deceive.

They took somebody’s mother away
She was still inside the grocery store
When they knocked her to the floor.

And now we can’t look away
If this happens anywhere
We all have some blame to share.

Chorus
I don’t understand
What’s happening to this land
Compassion, love, and mercy
Have slipped through our hand
And if we want them back
We’ll have to make a stand
Each resist in their own way
And raise our voices every day.

A young kid stuck in his house
Afraid to go outside to play
Someone might drag him away.

Like the thousands already locked away
In illegal custody
With every kind of cruelty.

But I see hope out on the street
People rally with their signs
Folks of all stripes and kinds.

And we can’t look away
If we want the tide to turn
Justice is something that we earn.

Repeat chorus
