Pilgrim

She drives her car at night
She’s off to work
Under the artificial light
Into the empty ramp
Where she will park
And into the building
Closed and dark.

Chorus
When she came all those years ago
She was hoping for the best
But soon she found she was
An unwanted guest
The night can be darker than it seems
And she hopes that her kids can live her dreams.

The lights show where she goes
Cleaning from floor to floor
Her rhythm never slows
She’s all done before
She takes the time to breathe
Gathers her things
And locks to leave.

And on the weekend break
Her apartment is a place of smiles
And she has food to make
Her sisters and her kids
They hold her tight
Keep her safe until work
On Monday night.

Chorus

She does the work
Nobody wants
And the fear of leaving here
Is like a ghost that haunts
She pays her taxes and her debts
In hopes that she can stay
But she lives
Lives day by day.

So, she drives her car at night
Off to work again
Under the artificial light
Into the empty ramp where she goes to park
And into the building
Cold and dark.
