On the Death of a Friend

Long day, I’m heading home
Might be a sleepless night
On this damp day, in this cold fog
The front door is a welcome site.

Turn on the lights, take off my coat
See what the mail has to say
I think I hear a ticking clock
As the season of light slips away.

Out in the yard, a kind of dread
The roof of clouds hangs low
Far away, a siren sounds
With somewhere important to go.

But I fly a million miles away
On a journey of my own
That familiar face in the strangest kind of place
It’s like a lost world calling me home
A lost world calling me home.
