On the Bridge
Of all the work that I might do
And things that I might be
And all the places I might go
Where you’d encounter me.
This old bridge
It spans the gap
Between the rich and poor
Someone’s dreams
Of better times
It’ll take you there no more
On the bridge, but far away.
Nothing that we’ve ever had
Is something we really share
And if I could find common ground
I’d love to take you there.
This old bridge
It spans the gap
Between two sides of town
Here we stand, on either side
Like the bridge fell down
On the bridge
But far away.
We should have known when this began
That it would go too far
With all the pain from where we came
It was bound to cross our stars.
This old bridge
It was a place
Where we could both agree
But up it rose into the sky
Without you or me
On the bridge
But far away.
On the bridge, but far away
On the bridge, but far away.
