Hard to Go Back Home
The dark of night pulls us along
The straight and empty road
Maybe it’s not far to San Antone.
Driving through the Kansas storms
And Oklahoma sun
Why is it so hard to go back home.
The snow falls hard on 35
We wait for it to ease
Driving back, back up north again.
The icy roads in Cameron
Kept us up all night
Why is it so hard to go back home.
Lingering for a while
By the windy shore
The angry waves have closed the old Cape Road.
The house is so cold and dark
When we finally arrive
Why is it so hard to go back home.
They say a journey changes you
In some subtle ways
Maybe you will never be the same.
Maybe it’s you and not your home
That is so far away
It’s so hard to go back home.
