Cold December Night
Cold December night
Glad I came outside
The air is sharp and clear
The daytime wind has died
I’ve built myself a fire
It whispers as it burns
And the stars glide across the sky
As the world gently turns
The stars glide across the sky
As the world gently turns
I see the windows glow
From the house just down the road
Glitters where it lights the ground
Yesterday it snowed
The winter silence is everywhere
I dare not dare make a sound
A quiet little memory
For when quiet can’t be found
Quiet little memory
For when quiet can’t be found.
I am old enough
To understand the cost
Of dreams I’ve left behind
And people that I’ve lost
I’m thankful for the gifts
That can be found
Like a quiet winter reverie
On this patch of frozen ground
Like a quiet winter reverie
On this patch of frozen ground.
From the nearby woods
I hear an owl call
I like the sad and hollow sound
Not meant for me at all
In this winter world
I am just a guest
So I’ll take away
This piece of mind
And leave behind the rest
I’ll take away
This piece of mind
And leave behind the rest.
I hope that I don’t forget
The good luck that I’ve had
I believe that overall
The good outweighs the bad
The fire warms my hands
The snow reflects starlight
I thank the spirit up above
For a cold December night
I thank the spirit up above
For a cold December night.
