City Song

I go out for a walk
To listen to the talk
Of all the city’s voices.

There’s a kind of rhyme
Amid the chaos and the grime
And I like so many choices.

The city is the last place I should be
But somehow it’s become a part of me.

I pick up my pace
To find an empty space
Where I can do a little breathing.

The people all around
Are dancing to the sound
Of the sidewalk weaving.

I think I hear a voice call out to me
But that might be the voice of the city.

Chorus
All the souls around me
On these crowded streets
They all have their stories and their schemes
Hurrying off to somewhere
Hoping for the best
Even if that’s not the way it seems

I make my way back home
Feel a bit alone
Open up the window.

The noise rushes in
The city’s welcome din
And all the rainbow lights glow.

The city is the last place I should be
But somehow it’s become a part of me
I should seek out a forest or the sea
And not the raucous noisy symphony
Of the city.
