A Whiskey Song

Once I drank some whiskey
Or maybe it was twice
The rest was medicinal
On a friend’s advice
On special occasions
Like surviving every day
I’ll take a drop of whiskey
Just to ease my way.

I know that beer
Certainly has its place
But it’s kind of filling
And it goes straight to the waist
I’ll drink a beer or two
Just to be polite
But it’s a little sip of whiskey
That helps me sleep at night.

Wine is art. And it is
A connoisseur’s delight
I wish I had a palette
But my budget is too tight
Wine is so varietal
The red, rose, and white
That I could never learn it all
If I studied every night.

I could use a little whiskey now
I am just a working stiff
Tethered to the plow
I don’t think that it’s too much to ask
For a little ounce or two
Of whiskey in my glass.

The making of whiskey
The simple and the fine
Is an endless mystery
Of every style and kind
The brave and the learned
Those who hear the call
In the name of science
Need to try them all

You need to be careful
You don’t over indulge
Your nose will turn a burning red
And your eyes will bulge
You will stagger down the street
And fall Into a hole
Whiskey’s song is ever sweet
But heavy is its toll.

I could use a little whiskey please
All the strife of daily life
Will reduce you by degrees
And I don’t think that it’s too much to ask
For a little ounce or two of whiskey in my glass.
